Background
On Thursday, July 27, 2023, American International College (AIC) experienced an unprecedented disruption to campus life as a lightning strike caused a major structural fire in Courniotes Hall and the adjacent Lissa building. Having been the home for AIC’s health science programs, the loss of these facilities has been felt deeply by all parts of the College community - especially the students, faculty, and alumni. In the immediate aftermath of the fire, and in advance of the 2023 fall semester, the College launched a comprehensive response plan to meet the most pressing needs of students, including identifying temporary alternative classrooms and lab spaces to minimize the disruption of students’ educational experiences. These efforts are ongoing and will ensure our students are able to fulfill their dreams of completing their college degree.
Moving Forward
In 1905, AIC adopted the official motto Post Tenebras Lux, “After Darkness, Light.” Nearly 120 years later, it is this spirit that we will be embracing a new vision for Courniotes Hall; a vision that builds on its history and legacy, and that through innovation and reimagination, responds to the needs of today’s educational and professional needs. A bold reimagining requires a collective, community effort. We believe that in the wake of this tragic event, there is an opportunity to creatively recreate what we lost, while honoring the legacy of what this hall has meant to many over the years. With your support, AIC will be able to embrace learning innovation, adopt the use of new technologies, and create and provide profound experiences for students of all disciplines. A Phased Approach
We are currently in phase one of the reimagination of Courniotes Hall - conceptualizing and designing an entirely new and state-of-the-art educational space. Your support today helps AIC build momentum and allows all members of this community to make an immediate impact on this initiative. Phase two will commence when construction begins - and we make this bold vision a reality.
